About me
Hi there! My name is Matthijs. I live and work in the Netherlands, but in my spare time, I often travel to my favorite destination: Italy.
I remember the first time I arrived in Rome. Finally! I had made it to the Caput Mondi. The Eternal City. The city of visible history and captivating stories around every corner. Maybe it's because I threw a coin in the Trevi Fountain, but ever since my first visit, Rome has had a hold on me, calling me back.
But it's not only Rome that draws me back time and time again. Throughout the years, I've had the opportunity to explore numerous destinations across Italy. And with each visit, my love for the country has grown stronger and more profound. It fueled my passion for all things Italian.

I often get asked where this fascination comes from. Why keep going back to the same country? It's challenging to provide a concise answer. So many aspects captivate and intrigue me; summarizing them feels nearly impossible.
It's the country's history, (religious) traditions, the different customs per region, stunning landscapes, mouthwatering cuisine, and so much more. But above all: it simply feels like my home away from home. Perhaps my passion is best described by Giuseppe Verdi, who once said: "you may have the universe, if I may have Italy!"
Amidst the COVID pandemic and lockdown, I started writing down my travel stories. Through sharing them online, I hope to take you on an inspiring digital journey through the history and culture of the country I'm so passionate about.
Buon viaggio!
